Doctor Chris Miller Talks about Dental Crowns and Bridges

Crowns and bridges can help restore health, function, and appearance. Actually that's a really great question. So you have a couple of different ways that that can help.

If you have cracked teeth, there's obviously something functionally going on. It could be too much force from a habit, too much force from grinding or clenching, or trauma, but certainly we want to restore that function. Crowns and bridges, if you have cracked teeth or things are breaking, we can restore that to look and feel like a natural tooth.

We've done it to the point where people can't even figure out which tooth it is. They'll say, I think it's this tooth. No, no, that's your natural tooth.

The one we did the crown is for is right next to it. So like, oh, I knew it was up here somewhere, you know, so, uh, but appearance, uh, we've done it for people that have had, uh, large fillings that those are starting to break down and they can actually see the filling and they don't like that. And then we can go into either something like an inlay, an onlay or a crown, just depending on whatever is needed.

And it makes it just disappear. So that's now we're back to aesthetics and function at the same time. Health.

Uh, I've seen crowns that have been made by a lab, but they have really rough edges or open edges. And the gums just sit there and they look really raw. They look raw.

They look angry and they're getting a lot of food tucked in there. Some people say, I'll ask them is there's one spot that you get food stuck. Is it right here? And they'll say, yes.

And I say, okay, it's because this crown is not doing you any good. It's, it's rough. It's got an open edge.

It's just like, uh, I do fishing. So it's kind of like a fish hook has that barb on it. The fish isn't going to be able to come off.

Right? So if the food gets in there, it gets stuck on that rough edge and it's not going to come out. So, uh, I've had a lot of people, we do their crowns and they, we remove a crown that was, that was poorly sealed or poorly, um, contoured. We put a new crown on there.

The gum is healthy. It's beautiful. The patient says, I don't get food stuck there anymore.

They're happier with their teeth. It's more comfortable crowns. They are really great.

I know, um, a lot of people worry about how much tooth is left, but with our system, I don't have to work with the tooth much. Um, we can be very minimally invasive, particularly when we do the crown same day. So I don't need, uh, to get into the tooth a lot to have you wear a temporary that has to hold on to so much tooth.

We can be very minimally invasive cause we're bonding the tooth. So when we bonded to the tooth immediately that same day, we've saved a ton of teeth. So I really love crowns that we can do them same day.

The way that we do them, I get them back better than I would from a lab. So my team, we've trained them. They, they do all the care in between.

And then when we just bring the crown to the room, same day, patients are just thrilled. So no temporary crowns that cause sensitivity. They don't pop off.

They don't smell weird. Your gums are healthy and it's just done. You can go right back to your life and you can eat as soon as you like.

It's as done as it ever will be. So I actually really like crowns and inlays and all nice that they help a ton.

Choose the Right Option for Your Smile

Your dentist can restore your smile with:

  • Full Crowns - You can restore a damaged or decayed tooth with a customized e.max crown. It will look like a natural part of your smile and give you back full oral function.
  • Inlays and Onlays - These restorations are a great option when full tooth coverage isn't required, but a simple filling isn't enough to make the needed repair.
  • Implant Crowns - If you have a single missing tooth, your dentist can anchor a crown to a dental implant. This eliminates the need to remove enamel from any healthy teeth to support a bridge.
  • Traditional Bridges - Your dentist can replace one or more missing teeth in a row with a dental bridge. The bridge is anchored to nearby teeth and will give you back a complete smile.
  • Implant Bridges - You can pair your bridge with implants for greater stability and function. It will look and function like natural teeth. The implants also help protect you from bone loss in your jaw.

If you feel nervous about your procedure, you can opt for oral sedation. Our team can also offer you a cozy pillow or blanket and a stress ball to reduce your nerves. Restore your smile with dental crowns and bridges in Indianapolis.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Crowns and Bridges

How long do dental crowns and bridges last?

On average, a dental crown or bridge lasts about five to seven years. But if you take good care of your teeth and avoid harmful foods, it can last 10 years or longer. We're happy to give you advice on how to keep your crown or bridge in great shape for as long as possible.

What can dental crowns and bridges be used for?

Dental crowns and bridges are flexible dental solutions that fix and replace teeth in different ways. Crowns cover damaged or unhealthy teeth to make them stronger and stop further issues. They can also be placed on dental implants to fill gaps where teeth are missing. Bridges fill in one or more missing teeth in a row by attaching to nearby teeth or implants.

How are dental bridges attached?

A dental bridge fills the space left by missing teeth with lifelike replacement teeth known as pontics. The bridge can be anchored by placing crowns on the teeth beside the gap or by using dental implants. Implants offer the advantage of avoiding the need to alter healthy teeth to support the bridge.

I am SO glad I found Renew Dental Arts! My previous experience with the dentist was fine but nothing special. Dr Studebaker has amazing bedside manner, took extra care and time to diagnose my tooth issue, and carried out the procedure with professionalism, integrity, and kindness. I feel so well taken care of here. Also, I really appreciate the quantitative way of discussing ways to improve dental hygiene. Instead of vague "brush and floss!" the techs use special gel to show you where plaque builds up and they actually treat the gingivitis. I'm in my 30s and feel like I actually understand how to take care of my teeth for the first time thanks to Renew Dental Arts.
